Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):
- Route: Deep Intramuscular (IM) or Intravenous (IV) Bolus/Infusion.
- Adults: 1 gm to 2 gm once daily. (Max 4 gm daily for severe infections like Meningitis).
- Pediatrics: 50 to 75 mg per kg body weight once daily.
- Meningitis Protocol: 100 mg per kg body weight (not to exceed 4 gm) once daily.
- Gonorrhea: Single IM dose of 250 mg.
Safety Warnings:
- Calcium Warning: FATAL RISK: Do not mix or administer simultaneously with Calcium-containing solutions (like Ringer’s Lactate or Calcium Gluconate) due to risk of precipitation in the lungs/kidneys.
- Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cephalosporins. Cross-reactivity with Penicillins may occur.
- Lidocaine Use: If using Lidocaine as a diluent to reduce pain, the injection must be given IM ONLY, never IV.
