Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):
- Route: Oral.
- Standard Adult Dose: 250 mg to 500 mg every 12 hours for 7 to 14 days.
- H. pylori Regimen: 500 mg twice daily (every 12 hours) for 10 to 14 days as part of Triple Therapy.
- Extended Release (XL): 1000 mg (two 500mg tablets) once daily with food. Do not crush or chew.
- Renal Impairment: Dose must be halved if Creatinine Clearance is < 30 mL/min.
Safety Warnings:
- Metallic Taste: A persistent metallic or bitter taste (“Dysgeusia”) is a very common side effect.
- QT Prolongation: Can cause heart rhythm abnormalities. Contraindicated in patients with history of QT prolongation or those taking other QT-prolonging drugs.
- Drug Interactions (CYP3A4): Clarithromycin is a potent inhibitor of CYP3A4. It significantly increases levels of Statins (risk of Rhabdomyolysis), Colchicine, and Benzodiazepines. Contraindicated with Simvastatin and Lovastatin.
