Product Overview
Colistimethate Sodium is a cyclic polypeptide antibiotic belonging to the Polymyxin group. It acts by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, leading to cell death.
It is the “Salvage Therapy” for:
- MDR Infections: Infections resistant to Carbapenems, Cephalosporins, and Aminoglycosides.
- Severe Pneumonia: Ventilator-associated pneumonia caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Acinetobacter baumannii.
- Urosepsis: Complicated urinary tract infections caused by resistant pathogens.

Therapeutic Indications
Indicated for the treatment of severe acute or chronic infections due to sensitive strains of certain gram-negative bacilli, particularly:

*Note: Not effective against Gram-positive bacteria or anaerobes.
Dosage & Administration
Strict Medical Supervision Required (ICU Setting):
- IV Administration: Usually 2.5 to 5 mg/kg per day, divided into 2 to 4 doses. (Dosage often calculated in Million Units).
- Renal Adjustment: Critical dosage adjustment required for patients with renal impairment to prevent kidney damage.
- Inhalation: Can be used via nebulizer for cystic fibrosis patients with lung infections.

- Nephrotoxicity: High risk of kidney damage; monitor renal function (Creatinine/BUN) daily.
