Description

Ergometrine Maleate Tablets

Healthy Inc is a specialized global supplier and exporter of life-saving maternal health pharmaceuticals. We provide high-stability Ergometrine Maleate Tablets, sourced from WHO–GMP certified solid dosage facilities. This critical “Uterine Tonic” is a top export to maternity wards, government health ministries, and NGO birth programs in Africa, LATAM, and Southeast Asia, serving as a frontline defense against Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) caused by uterine atony.

Product Overview

This formulation contains Ergometrine Maleate (also known as Ergonovine), a water-soluble ergot alkaloid.

The “Life-Saving Ligature” Specialist:

  • Mechanism: Ergometrine acts directly on the uterine smooth muscle (myometrium) via 5-HT2 and alpha-adrenergic receptors. It increases the tone, rate, and amplitude of rhythmic contractions.
  • “Living Ligatures”: At therapeutic doses, it induces a sustained, tetanic contraction of the uterus. This mechanical compression clamps down on the spiral arteries at the placental site, effectively stopping bleeding after childbirth.
  • Oral Advantage: While Oxytocin requires injection and cold chain, Ergometrine tablets offer a viable oral option for maintaining uterine tone in low-resource settings or for subinvolution therapy after hospital discharge.
  • Speed: Oral administration produces a uterine response within 5 to 10 minutes.

Manufacturing Authority

Marketed and Distributed by Healthy Inc from WHO-GMP & ISO 9001:2015 certified units.

  • Stability Engineering: Ergometrine is notoriously unstable; it degrades rapidly upon exposure to light and heat, turning dark and losing potency. We utilize Amber Glass packaging or Cold-Form Alu-Alu blisters and manufacture under low-actinic light conditions to ensure the product reaching the patient is fully potent.
  • Maleate Salt: We use the Maleate salt form which offers the best balance of solubility and stability for oral formulations.

Therapeutic Indications (Human Use)

Indicated for obstetric emergencies and recovery:

  • Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH): Prevention and treatment of PPH due to uterine atony (failure of the uterus to contract).
  • Subinvolution: Treatment of imperfect closure of the uterus (slow return to normal size) after childbirth.
  • Post-Abortion: Control of hemorrhage following abortion or miscarriage.

Dosage & Administration

Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Obstetrician/Midwife):

  • Route: Oral.
  • PPH Prevention/Treatment: 0.2 mg to 0.4 mg (1 or 2 tablets) taken 2 to 4 times daily.
  • Duration: Usually limited to 48 hours. Long-term use is not recommended due to risk of ergotism.
  • Timing: Typically administered *after* the delivery of the placenta to avoid trapping the placenta inside the uterus.

Safety Warnings:

  • Hypertension (Contraindication): Ergometrine causes vasoconstriction and can dangerously raise blood pressure. It is strictly contraindicated in patients with Pre-eclampsia, Eclampsia, or chronic hypertension.
  • Sepsis: Use with caution in cases of sepsis (may increase sensitivity to gangrene).
  • Lactation: Excreted in breast milk and may suppress lactation. Use only if necessary.
  • Cramping: Strong uterine cramps are the expected therapeutic effect, not a side effect, but can be painful.
