Description
Erythromycin Stearate Tablets
Healthy Inc is a specialized global supplier and exporter of classic macrolide antibiotics. We provide high-purity Erythromycin Stearate Tablets, sourced from WHO–GMP certified solid dosage facilities. This “Penicillin-Alternative” is a top export to respiratory clinics, dermatology wards, and government health tenders in Africa, LATAM, and Southeast Asia, serving as the primary antibiotic of choice for patients allergic to penicillin.
Product Overview
This formulation contains Erythromycin Stearate, an acid-stable salt form of erythromycin.
The “Safe Alternative” Specialist:
- Mechanism: Erythromycin acts by binding irreversibly to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria. This blocks the “translocation” step of protein synthesis, effectively stopping the bacteria from growing (Bacteriostatic) or killing them at high concentrations (Bactericidal).
- Salt Advantage: The Stearate salt is more stable in the acidic environment of the stomach compared to Erythromycin Base. It dissociates in the alkaline environment of the intestine to release the active drug for absorption.
- Penicillin Substitute: It has a similar antibacterial spectrum to Penicillin G (covering Gram-positives) but is chemically distinct, making it the Gold Standard substitute for patients with Penicillin allergies.
- Anti-Inflammatory: Beyond killing bacteria, it has secondary anti-inflammatory effects, making it useful in acne and chronic respiratory conditions.

Manufacturing Authority
Marketed and Distributed by Healthy Inc from WHO-GMP & ISO 9001:2015 certified units.
- Taste Masking: Erythromycin is one of the bitterest substances in pharmacopeia. We use a specialized polymer film coating that remains intact in the mouth but dissolves immediately in the stomach, ensuring compliance (especially in younger patients).
- Dissolution Stability: While the stearate is acid-stable, prolonged exposure to humidity can cause the tablet to harden and fail dissolution tests. Our moisture-barrier packaging ensures consistent bioavailability.
Therapeutic Indications (Human Use)
Indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms:
- Upper & Lower Respiratory Tract: Pharyngitis, Tonsillitis, Bronchitis, and Pneumonia (especially Mycoplasma pneumonia).
- Skin & Soft Tissue: Acne Vulgaris, Impetigo, Cellulitis.
- Sexually Transmitted Infections: Syphilis (in penicillin-allergic patients), Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea.
- Prophylaxis: Prevention of Rheumatic Fever recurrence.
Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):
- Route: Oral.
- Adults: 250 mg to 500 mg every 6 hours (4 times daily) OR 500 mg to 1000 mg every 12 hours (Twice daily). Maximum 4g/day.
- Children: 30 to 50 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
- Timing: Best taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) with a full glass of water. If GI upset occurs, it may be taken with food (though absorption is slightly reduced).
Safety Warnings:
- Gastrointestinal Motility: Erythromycin mimics the hormone “motilin,” causing strong stomach contractions, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. This is the most common side effect.
- QT Prolongation: Can affect heart rhythm. Use with caution in patients with history of arrhythmias.
- Drug Interactions (CYP3A4): Erythromycin is a potent inhibitor of liver enzymes. It can dangerously increase levels of Theophylline, Warfarin, Carbamazepine, and Statins.
- Hepatotoxicity: Rare cases of reversible cholestatic hepatitis.
