Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician):
- Route: Intramuscular (IM) or Slow Intravenous (IV).
- Adults (Initial): 20 mg to 40 mg (2 to 4 mL) IV or IM.
- Resistant Edema: Dose may be increased by 20 mg increments every 2 hours until desired diuretic effect is obtained.
- Pediatric: 1 mg/kg body weight IV or IM.
- Warning: IV injection must be given slowly (over 1 to 2 minutes) to prevent ototoxicity (hearing loss).
Safety Warnings:
- Electrolytes: Monitor Potassium (K+) and Sodium (Na+) levels; may cause severe hypokalemia.
- Hypotension: Monitor blood pressure frequently during administration.
- Sulfa Allergy: Use with caution in patients hypersensitive to sulfonamides.
