- Rheumatoid Conditions: 25 mg two or three times daily. If well tolerated, increase by 25 mg at weekly intervals. Max 150-200 mg daily.
- SR Dosage: 75 mg once or twice daily.
- Administration (Critical): MUST be taken with food, milk, or antacids to reduce severe gastric irritation. NEVER on an empty stomach.
Safety Warnings:
- Indomethacin Headache: A severe, throbbing frontal headache is a very common side effect (occurring in up to 50% of patients on high doses). Dosage reduction is usually required.
- GI Bleeding: High risk of peptic ulcers and bleeding compared to Ibuprofen. Caution in elderly.
- CNS Effects: Can cause dizziness, vertigo, and confusion. Do not drive or operate machinery.
