Product Overview
Metronidazole is a synthetic nitroimidazole derivative with a unique dual mechanism of action:
- Antibacterial: Highly effective against obligate Anaerobic Bacteria (e.g., Clostridium, Bacteroides, Fusobacterium) often found in deep wounds, abscesses, and bone infections.
- Antiprotozoal: The drug of choice for treating protozoal infections like Giardiasis, Trichomoniasis, and Amoebiasis.

Therapeutic Indications & Usage
Dogs & Cats:
- Protozoal Infections: Giardiasis (Diarrhea), Trichomoniasis.
- Anaerobic Infections: Peritonitis, Osteomyelitis (Bone infection), Empyema, and Dental infections.
- Gastrointestinal: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Colitis, and Hepatic Encephalopathy.
Horses:
- Treatment of anaerobic pleuropneumonia and lung abscesses.
- Post-surgical prophylaxis (especially abdominal surgery).
Dosage & Administration
General Guidelines (As per Vet Prescription):
- Dogs/Cats: 10 mg to 15 mg per kg body weight via Slow IV Infusion.
- Horses: 15 mg to 25 mg per kg body weight via Slow IV Infusion.
- Frequency: Usually administered twice daily (every 12 hours).

- Food Animals: The use of Metronidazole in food-producing animals (Cattle, Sheep, Pigs) is prohibited or strictly regulated in many countries due to residue concerns. Please check local regulations before use in livestock.
- Neurotoxicity: High doses or prolonged use can cause neurological side effects.
