Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dosage (Strictly as per Physician/WHO Guidelines):
- Route: Oral.
- Schistosomiasis: Standard dose is 40 mg/kg body weight, usually taken as a single dose or divided into two doses (taken 4-6 hours apart).
- Administration: Tablets should be taken with liquid during or after a meal to minimize gastric upset and bitter taste. Do not chew.
- Tablets are Scored: The 600mg tablet usually has 3 score lines (dividing it into 4 parts of 150mg each) to allow accurate dosing for children.
Safety Warnings:
- Drowsiness: Can cause significant drowsiness and dizziness. Patients should not drive or operate machinery on the day of treatment and the following day.
- Ocular Cysticercosis: Contraindicated in ocular cysticercosis (parasites in the eye), as the inflammatory response to the dying worm can damage the eye.
- Drug Interactions: Rifampicin (TB drug) dramatically lowers Praziquantel levels and should not be used concomitantly.
